<!--XML for Designers-->
XML is everywhere on the World Wide Web. Look at any news, weather, music or sports site on the Web and you will see the little XML or RSS icons at the bottom of the page. Copy this code to your own Website and you can provide your visitors personalized up-to-the-minute news, weather and sports scores.
XML is also being used for voice applications both on the Web as well as for phone systems. Next time you call to check your bank statement or try to cancel a credit card, the voice you hear on the other end of the line may just be driven by XML!
Today, XML is also finding a home in print applications, including: catalogs, directories, phone lists, business cards, and even ad tracking in magazines. Any place where you need to publish structured or repetitive data, XML is an ideal medium.
However, the place where the heat is hottest is surrounding the topic of re-pupurposing! Repurposing is simply the repackaging text and graphics for use in a different medium. Magazines, newspapers, and other publishers have been struggling for the last decade to get content off the printed page and into electronic formats quickly, easily and, most importantly, affordably!
XML is one solution. It allows you to identify elements and content and then reformat it for a wide variety of uses. And, the best thing about it is that it is FREE, open source and relatively easy to learn!
